It’s natural to feel unsure about your future in your 20s. But you don’t have to be. With a little planning, you can put together a successful career path in your 20s. Here are seven simple steps you can take to get started.
Know What (You Think) You Enjoy.
This is an integral step in the career planning process in your 20s since there are so many different pathways you could take.
Take stock of what you’re good at and what you like to do. Make a list of your skills, interests, strengths, and goals. Then look for connections between them. Ask yourself: What types of jobs would be a good fit for me? Which aspects of my background or skills could be relevant to those jobs? How can I use my interests to shape my career?
Evaluate your strengths and weaknesses.
You can’t pinpoint the right career without knowing your strengths and weakness. What are your strengths and where do they fit in the job market? Where are your weaknesses and how might they hold you back? Once you know what you need to work on, you can begin developing the skills needed for your career.
Create a job search strategy.
It’s important to have a plan when you’re looking for a job. A good strategy is to research companies you’re interested in and identify ways to show that you’re a good match for their organization. Then come up with a list of companies and send out your resume. Be flexible and creative in your job search—you don’t have to settle for the first job that comes along.
Try networking as well—connect with people who might be able to give you information or even a job lead. And don’t forget about yourself! When you’re looking for a job, it’s important to be patient and supportive of your process. Remember that no job is forever—once you find the right one, you’ll be glad you stuck with it!

The key to finding the right environment for you is knowing what’s most important to you—do you want to be challenged or happy, for example? Once you’ve identified your preferences, you can make informed choices about the kinds of work settings that will be a good fit for you.
Explore different career paths.
There are endless possibilities when it comes to choosing a career path. There are many different ways you might use your skills and interests and turn your interests into a career.

Develop a budget.
Whether you’re just starting your first job or considering moving to a new city for a career opportunity, you’ll need to consider your budget before you make any big decisions.
Start by figuring out what your current monthly expenses are and then decide what you would need to spend to meet your needs if you’re spending more money on your job than you’re bringing in.
From there, you can set a budget and figure out how much money you can afford to spend each month without going into debt. By developing a budget, you can help make sure your finances are in good shape!
